What is a soft shirt?
Fall is just around the corner, and you may be thinking about ordering shirts for your next fall event. A question you may be asking yourself could be โwhat is all the noise about these so-called soft shirts?โ
Did you know that thereโs a difference between 100% cotton and 100% Ring-spun Cotton? The type of cotton your shirt uses affects the softness and quality of your shirt. When it comes to your fall event, you may be wondering which one would work best for your youth group.
100% cotton
100% cotton is one of the easiest fabrics to use when screen-printing. Itโs a natural fabric that will feel great against your skin. T-shirts that are 100% cotton are made with open-end cotton. You may prefer a traditional cotton shirt if your fall event will take place in a cooler climate, as standard cotton shirts keep the heat in best. This type of cotton is less expensive to make than ring-spun cotton. 100% cotton offers great value for when you are budgeting for your basic tee.
Deciding factor: If you need a cheaper alternative to other shirt blends, go with 100% cotton.
100% Ring-spun Cotton
Ringspun Cotton is a smoother soft-tee and stronger than regular cotton. This is due to the spinning process that straightens each fabric. Ring-spun yarn is made by twisting the cotton strands and thinning it out to make the cotton fibers softer. Ring-spun usually does not shrink as much as regular cotton does. Shirts that are made with ring-spun cotton are more durable and a little pricier than regular cotton.
Deciding factor: If you have a little extra room in your budget, and you prefer a softer shirt with good durability, go with ring-spun cotton.
Different Types of Soft Tees
100% ring-spun cotton is just one option from the soft shirt category. If you want a softer shirt than ring-spun cotton and have room in your budget to spend a bit more, you can go with a 50/50 blend (50% cotton and 50% polyester). For the softest shirt on the planet, you can opt for a Tri-blend shirt (50% polyester, 25% cotton and 25% rayon). Although, the tri-blend option is the most expensive.
